The Wonderful Bridges natural phenomenon

Located in Zaburdo
The Wonderful Bridges are one of the most interesting natural phenomena in Bulgaria, located in the Central Rhodopes along the eastern slope of the Chernatitsa ridge. They are located at 1450 m. on an area of 40.3 ha and 80 km south of Plovdiv and 35 km northwest of Chepelare. The Wonderful Bridges are huge marble arches connecting the two banks of the Dalbok Dol River, which runs from Peak 92091 m) amidst centuries-old spruce and pine forests. They also bear the name Erkupriya from the Turkish "er" - land and "kupri" - a bridge.
The phenomenon is interesting not only for its impressive appearance, but also for the history of its origin. A former cave formed in the marble stem from the waters of the River Dalbock has collapsed, probably in an earthquake. The waters carried away the fallen debris and thus formed two rare natural rock bridges.
The first larger bridge is a total length of 96 m and a height of 70 m. Its arch rises 45 m above the river. The marble block from which it is built is 12-15 m wide. Within its walls are two interconnected caves and numerous karst cavities where many birds and bats find refuge.
About 200 m below is the Second Bridge, which, with a length of 60 m, looks like a long tunnel. Its total height is 50 m, and only the arch is 30 m. Near the Second Bridge is the entrance to the Ice Cave, where ice is trapped by late summer.
